Return of a Lost Dog

Dear Dog Lovers,

Here is a quick update on local dog activities. The swim event was a blast. One dog paddled for 90 minutes non-stop. Another was afraid to go in the water "alone" but was happy as a "clam" on the leash with her person walking along the side of the pool. Check the photos below. Read on for details and let us hear from you when you have dog news or concerns by email  or  at our website  www.odogparks.org.  Emily Rosenberg, Publisher
Take Your Dog To Church This Weekend
You don't have to be a believer to enjoy The Blessing of the Animals at Skyline Community Church near Redwood Park. The view is extraordinary and the people are warm and wonderful. Bring your leashed dog and guinea pig, parrot, horse or other critter. This Saturday, September 15 at 11am. 12540 Skyline Boulevard, about a mile south of Joaquin Miller Dog Park. Skyline Community Church.
Dogs Get Wet and Silly

The dog pool party on September 8 was a challenge for most of the owners. Some couldn't get their dogs out of the pool. Derby held the record at 90 minutes.

Others couldn't get their dogs into the water. And everybody was very inventive in tempting their pups down the slippery steps into the shimmery blue. A great time was had by all and special thanks again to Jim Wheeler of the City's Aquatics Department who put on the event for doggy fun.

Meet Some All Star Volunteers

Thanks a million to the volunteers who made our dog park closing projects go so smoothly at Joaquin Miller Dog Park. We got star ratings from the City on clean up and we never had a single complaint about dog poop in the parking lots during theater events.

We became a team of great problem solvers during the six closing work parties. Special notice goes to Ron Schwartz who has volunteered at every event AND..... has learned a few tricks himself. Another very committed dog owner is Cindy Moody, owner of  Zoe who started helping even before the dog park opened and kept coming back for more.

Dog Laws Change-- Another Meeting

Here is another chance to comment on the new dog laws proposed by Council Member Jean Quan.

Ms. Quan's office remains committed to a 15 minute limit on tethering dogs in public places.

The meeting is at the Life Enrichment Committee on Tuesday September 25 at City Hall. Email us for details at odogparks@comcast.net .
Please study the current regulations posted below. If you cannot attend the meeting or want to present detailed information, please send your comments to Sue Piper, Policy Analyst for Jean Quan.

The meeting will allow about one minute for each person to offer comments so be sure to focus on the actual regulations rather than how much you love your dog or the rights of dogs or pet owners.
Current Rules

California Dog Rules(PDF) went into effect earlier this year and provide the basis of the dog in car poposal.

Oakland City Rules apparently prohibit tying to any public property. This link requires that you look at the list on the left and click on Title 6 to see most of the rules affecting dog owners in Oakland.
