logo holiday colorDear Dog Lovers,

We have our first event at the new Mosswood Dog Park this weekend so read on.  What a wet week! The new chips at the Small Dog Park at Joaquin Miller still allowed a river of mud to arise. Hardy Dog Park has a mud perimeter. So it looks like grading is our next dog park issue. The trails are slippery but nothing to be done about that except to let the dogs romp and have fun.  Let us hear from you when you have dog news or concerns at  odogparks@comcast.net  or  at our website  www.odogparks.org.  Emily Rosenberg, Publisher
Mosswood Dog Park's First Event

Clean Up Party this Saturday from 9:30 to noon.  The heavy lifting has been done already.  UnknownWe have removed everything from a bathroom sink to a diving mask, from a BBQ to a car muffler.  What is left is broken glass and smaller litter, and lots of it.  These items can cause serious injury to dogs and children.  We are not asking folks to pick up poop (not a problem anyway).

Shovels, rakes and pitch forks welcome. Gloves a great idea. Please leave the dog in the car or at home because the event is being organized by Hands on Bay Area, a group of park lovers who are not necessarily dog people.

Where is Mosswood Park?  The park is between West MacArthur, the 580 freeway, Webster, and Broadway.  The dog runs are adjacent to the parking lot. Enter the parking lot from Webster, at 36th Street.

Singing in the Rain
Rainy at JMP
We're celebrating a full year of success at Joaquin Miller Dog Park.

Wood chips have been put in at the Small Dog Park and are scheduled for the Big Dog Park in the next month or so. Next we hope to convince the City to improve the drainage. Users have been great about dog park etiquette and managing all the openings and closings.

If you want to start improving the environment at Hardy Dog Park, under the freeway in Rockridge, please contact Sandy Olson at Bay Woof newspaper. Her email is Sandra@baywoof.com.
FEDS WANT TO BAN OFF-LEASH
Will it be a federal crime to take your dog off-leash at a San Francscio Beach?

Crissy Field and Ocean Beach are facing seasonal closures to off-leash dogs. Both areas are part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA). Dog advocates have been lobbying the National Park Service for years to retain dog access to beaches in San  Francisco. Despite research showing there is no benefit to wildlife from beach closures, the Feds press on against the dogs.

Please take a few minutes to tell the government that recreation areas are for people and we need places in this crowded urban area where we can go with our dogs When you go to the link you will find information about "comment to the GGNRA".Comment means letter. Be patient with the website. It is worth it..  Send an email now.

Our Sponsor: Paws and Claws

One of the best things about getting your natural pet food at
Paws and Claws Natural Pet Food Store and Bath House is the wonderful dog art in their store. This month's photographer is Alexis Levesque of Eyes of Understanding.
Alexis believes dogs, most notably pitbulls, are a fascinating subject matter. She feels pit bulls have always been perfect models - beautiful, expressive, and touched by sadness.

Visit Paws and Claws  to wash your dog and for food and supplies. Tuesday through Sunday at 2023 MacArthur, just off Fruitvale and around the corner from three great new stores: La Farine Bakery, Peets and the big Farmer Joe's. Phone 336-0105.

Hug A Thousand Dogs
hug
You can meet the breeders and pet more than a thousand dogs over the two days of the Golden Gate Kennel Club show at the Cow Palace. Maybe you can figure out the antecedents to your unique mutt. This is one of the few shows in the country that still has the dogs on view for the public to meet . You can watch them compete in the ring in conformation and obedience. Catch demostrations and visit a few hundred vendors.

January 26 and 27. The website doesn't seem to show times but it is probably 9-5. Bring your own food unless you like ball park fare. Leave the dog at home and wear comfortable shoes. This is an enormous event. Visit the Dog Show.
